about
These are the recordings that started it all
Not long ago, I wouldn't have considered myself a musician. I played some guitar every now and than, and by that i mean i knew a few chords, and i could play a radiohead song or two.
Than came the winter of 2010. Let's just say I wasn't the happiest of kids that winter. Winter always seems to fuck me up, and this was a bad one. Most of my friends had escaped the suburbs of thornhill and gone off to university while i was stuck in my hometown with little more than my thoughts and anxieties . So i bought a 4 track (this seemed more productive than my regular winter routine of smoking a ton of weed/listening to a ton of sad ambient music/sleeping all day long)
I had my dad's old guitar lying around, and managed to find some neat little keyboards lying around at my cottage up north, as well as my grandmothers basement. i got to work trying to write and record some songs in my basement, channeling my insomnia into obsessive all night recording sessions. At first I had no idea what I was doing, generally fuckign around with things i didnt understand (little has changed in that area); however, it was soon apparent that these recordings had become the most important thing i had ever posessed.
After some time, I had collected a great collection of recordings, some good and some bad, yet few i shared outside of a close group of friends and family. This is a handpicked selection of five of these recordings, which I have chosen for a number of personal reasons. This EP is the unedited documentation of me coming to terms with myself at a time that proved especially difficult to do so.
Recorded between the winter and summer of 2010, this was a learning experience, not only in terms of music, but in terms of myself.
These are the recordings that changed my life.
